Chapter 7 – page 76 Again and again – Lieutenant Kotler calls Pavel a certain word, after asking him to get a tire for Bruno.
This again and again gives information about a character, Lieutenant Kotler specifically. Since he is a soldier at the concentration camp, he automatically has hatred for the Jews. Him repeating the word that he is calling Pavel, automatically shows that it is probably a rude word, which adds onto his hatred.
Chapter 4 – page 35 Tough questions – Bruno and Gretel question the people outside the window, at the camp in the distance.
This tough question develops the plot. It develops the plot because it lets the reader know that there is indeed a camp in the distance, and it could become important later on in the story. It also allows the reader to think, maybe about what the camp might be and why it might be there. (Even though it is quite obvious.)

Chapter 5: pg.53 Contrast and Contradictions: Bruno is talking with his father and they are arguing about the camp/Jews. Father then tells Bruno that they aren’t people.
