1. "Suddenly, his eyes swung around the room; then he bowed his head and began weeping softly, like a child." (Pg. 74) It is a simile because it said "like a child" it contributes to the mood by making it feel like there is no hope. The chief started crying because he was hit after going insane. it makes you feel like the three are being torn apart because of what happened and there's no hope. it contributes to the suspense by increasing your concern on what is going to happen next and by making you want it to be fixed and everything okay.
1.) Personification-"These rat... his sharp cry will bring hordes of his fellows to swarm over you." pg. 69 (A) It is an example because they are making the rats sound like monsters. Pg. 70(a) This is an example of personification because there is not an actual starving army aboard a vessel gone mad it means that tons of mice that are hungry.
